Audio Recording

How do I provide you with my dictations?

You can provide eDecree your dictations in one of two ways
- Phone-In Dictation: eDecree's Phone In Dictation system is a simple to use three step system: Dial In, Enter your Security Code, and Start Dictating
- Upload Dictation: You also have the option to upload an audio file recorded by a digital dictaphone or a PC based audio recording application

I do not want to be online when recording my audio dictation. What other options do I have?

If you do not want to be online, you can use:
- PC audio recording application: Microsoft Windows comes with a basic audio recorder which is accessible from the Start Menu at All Programs/ Accessories/ Entertainment/ Sound Recorder. In addition to this, there are several free applications available on the web.
- Digital Dictaphone: They are available at any electronics store at a very economical price, and can record up to 40 hours of audio in mp3 format. You should confirm that the dictaphone you decide to purchase comes with a cable to transfer the audio file to your PC so that you can provide it to eDecree.

I would like you to transcribe a video for closed captioning purposes. What format should I provide you the file in?

If you require a transcript of the audio without distinguishing speakers, we only require the audio file in .mp3 or .wav format.

If you require a transcript which distinguishes the speakers, we will require a video file. Please contact us to make arrangements for the video transfer.

Online System

How do I keep track of the status of a file once I submit it for transcription?

eDecree's Dictation List option allows you to view all the dictations you have ever submitted, and the status field will tell you where the job is at all times. You can also filter the dictations based on the status, so that you do not see all of the older closed dictations.

How can I estimate the number of pages my dictation will translate to?

The number of pages your dictation translates to depends on the speed of the speakers. As a general rule of thumb, a conversation usually approximates to a page for every 1.5 minutes of speech, while a legal dictation with punctuation, and selective spelling approximates to a page for every 8 minutes of speech.

How do I know when my transcribed word document is ready?

You will receive a notification email from eDecree as soon as your transcribed word document is ready for your review. The email will also provide a link to the dictation itself for your convenience.

How do I report issues with the transcribed word file?

eDecree's issue reporting allows you to report any issues on a per dictation basis. When you receive the dictation for review, simply fill in the Issue field, and click on Report Issue. The dictation is then sent back to us for further investigation.

Why are specific sections of the transcribed word document highlighted?

Specific sections of the transcribed document are highlighted to bring your attention to the fact that our transcribers are doubtful as to those sections due to issues with the recording quality.

How do I categorize my dictations so that I can track them better?

eDecree's File feature allows you to tag your dictations with a File name so that you can classify different dictations in different categories. This is useful for lawyers who wish to separate different case files especially for billing purposes.

How do I provide feedback on the service?

Our suggestions box is the most convenient way for you to provide feedback on the overall service. It is accessible from the main menu bar. If you have issues with a specific dictation, you can provide feedback using the Issues feature in the Dictation details page.

Transcription Process

What application do you use for transcription?

We transcribe dictations recorded using Express Scribe dictation recording software! The application provides the ability to slow down the playback of your audio file thus increasing the accuracy during the transcription process.

What format can you provide me the file in?

We can provide you the file in any of the following document formats depending on your request. Please note that the default format is MS Word unless specified:
  • Microsoft Word
  • Adobe Acrobat PDF
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Plain Text
  • Microsoft FrontPage
  • Online Security

How do I view your SSL certificate?

Our SSL certificate can be viewed in one of two ways:
    - Click on the SSL certificate moving video on the top right corner of the website. This provides a picture of the actual GoDaddy certificate
    - Click on the lock next to the URL. This provides further details on the website authentication, and confirmation that you are in fact dealing with eDecree.com, and all communication with the site is protected by 256-bit SSL encryption.

My browser states that your certificate is not from a trusted authority. Why is that?

eDecree's SSL certificate has been issued by GoDaddy, whose root certificate is issued by Starfield/ Valicert. Starfield/ Valicert is included in the trusted root certificate list for most browsers. If you do get the message that your certificate is not from a trusted authority, and you are using Internet Explorer, please do a Custom Windows Update and request SSL certificate update to resolve this error. This error will not cause any issues in the normal operation of this site, and all communication with eDecree.com will still continue to be encrypted.
